Questions

General FAQs

  • Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, we welcome new patients! Our providers see patients ages newborn through adolescense/young adult.

  • Do you accept my health insurance plan?

We participate with most major health insurance plans. Please contact your insurance plan for complete verification and information regarding benefits and coverage.

  • Does your practice support breastfeeding mothers?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding babies for the first six months. Breastfeeding helps defend children against infections, prevents allergies, and protects against a number of chronic conditions. While experts believe that breast milk is the best nutritional choice for infants, breastfeeding may not be possible for all women. Some women have specific medical considerations that impede breastfeeding; others choose to feed by formula because of discomfort, work schedule, or lifestyle choices. In these cases, infant formula is a good alternative. We will gladly discuss your diet and feeding concerns at your well care visit, or please call during office hours to speak with our experienced nursing staff.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

Please call our main office number and follow the prompts for our prescription refill line. Allow one business day for all routine prescription refills. For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow at least three to five days for refill approval. Medication refills are handled during office hours only. Patient's well exam and medication follow up visit need to be up to date before medications refills will be given.

  • How do we contact the providers after hours?

Our medical providers are available 24 hours a day. Call the after hours number at (630) 364-1677 and follow the prompts to page a provider on call. Please be aware that after-hours calls are intended for URGENT medical issues that cannot wait until the next business day. • My child needs to see a specialist. What do I do?

    For non-urgent HMO referrals:

When one of our providers refers your child to a specialist, please call our referral department to initiate the referral and give required patient information. Please allow 3-10 days for a response from your insurance company. Most referrals are completed electronically and submitted directly to the innetwork specialist's office. Please check with our office staff to determine if your insurance plan processes referrals electronically and for further information.

    For urgent HMO referrals:

When one of our providers determines that an urgent referral is needed, your referral will be initiated immediately. Your insurance may still take 1-3 days to process. Please speak with our referral department for further information and details.

  • What days are you open?

Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 9-7, Friday from 9-5, and Saturday 9-12. Please note that Saturday appointments are generally reserved for sick visits and emergencies.

  • What immunizations will my child recieve?

To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, please refer to our recommended immunization schedule located under the Office Forms and Policies tab.

Our office follows the recommended vaccine schedule advised by the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics. We do not do any alternate schedules/spacing or parent requested vaccine schedules. We believe in the safety and importance of immunizations and are available by phone or office visit should you have any questions or concerns.

  • What is the correct amount of Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen to give my child for fever or pain?

Like prescription medicines, OTC ("over-the-counter") pain medicine such as Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen can be dangerous if not taken the right way. Talk with your child's doctor before giving your child any medicine, especially the first time. All OTC medicines have the same label format, which gives important information about the medicine. It says what it is for, how to use it, what is in it, and what to watch out for. Check the chart on the label to see how much medicine to give. If you know your child's weight, use that first. If not, go by age. Check the label to make sure it is safe for infants and toddlers younger than 2 years. If you are not sure, ask your child's doctor. Before you give your child any medicines, be sure you know how to use them.

  • When should my baby start solid foods?

As all children are different, we advise following several appropriate steps to advance your child's diet based on age and development. By 4-6 months most babies are ready to begin eating solid foods as a complement to breast-feeding or formula feeding. Please discuss these steps with our providers at your well care visit to see what is right for your child.

First Visit

  • Do I need to register with Milestone Pediatrics before my child is born or before my child’s first visit?

We highly advise you to add your baby to your insurance plan as soon as possible preferrably while the baby is still in the hospital, as most insurances require this to be done within 30 days after their birth.

We are contracted with most insurance plans. However we recommend contacting your insurance company to verify benefits and that our providers are innetwork.

We encourage parents to download and complete the registration paperwork in the comfort of your home and then bring with your to your child's appointment. These forms are available under the Forms and Policies tab.

New Patients

  • Do the doctors advocate regular immunizations for children?

We firmly believe that all children and young adults should receive all of the recommended vaccines according to the vaccination schedule published by the Centers for Disease Control, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. If you have any questions  about immunizations, please feel free to call our office. We are happy to answer you questions and provide you with helpful information.

Affiliated Hospital Information

  • How do I let the hospital know who my newborn’s pediatrician will be?

Our providers are on staff at Edward Hospital. If you will be delivering at Edward, you may list any of our providers when you pre-register or after the baby is born. The hospital will notify us when you deliver your baby and your newborn will be seen daily by either one our Milestone providers, or a hospital-based pediatric specialist, or a neonatologist, depending on the medical needs of your newborn. On the day of discharge, the provider will tell you when to bring your newborn in for his or her first office appointment; usually 48-72 hours after discharge.

While you are in the hospital, we encourage you to contact your insurance company to add your baby to your insurance plan. Most insurances will only give you 30 days to add a baby to the insurance plan. Things can get pretty busy after you are discharged and this step can be easily missed!

Should you be delivering at a hospital other then Edward Hospital,  the on-staff pediatrician at that hospital will see your baby during his or her stay. Call our office when you are discharged to schedule your first appointment which is typically advised within 48-72 hours of discharge, or sooner if directed by the hospital’s on-staff pediatrician.

We look forward to caring for your new bundle of joy!
